Choosing a tent for hunting, fishing or tourism

You can not imagine my life without hunting and willing all his spare time to devote to this hobby? Then you need to approach the preparation as qualitatively as possible. And, this applies not only to the place where you go to hunt, your hunting gear, the hunting company – your hunting dog, but also the tent. Because, unfortunately, not all of us can afford to convert an SUV traveling at a hunting lodge, therefore, have to settle for a tent. There are many varieties of tents, each of which is perfect for a particular type of outdoor activity.

Criteria for choosing a tent

The tent is your temporary shelter from bad weather, a haven for rest in the open air in the forest. After all, you can go hunting not for one day, and spend the night on the ground or just in a sleeping bag – not too comfortable, and not safe. Therefore, for your comfort, convenience and safety (you do not need to save on all this), you definitely need a tent. But how to choose it? What should I pay attention to?

First, decide on the geography of using such a tent, and also, with the time of the year when you will go out hunting with it. If you do not expect extreme hunting in severe frost, you can choose a tent without a special “skirt”, which provides additional protection from wind and cold. However, this same “skirt” can be useful to you in the summer and protect you from invasion of mosquitoes, therefore, here you decide – with a “skirt” or without.

Next, what you should pay attention to is the size of the tent. After all, you are not entirely comfortable when you are bent in three deaths, likewise when you can not move a hand or a foot without hurting your neighbor. Therefore, choose just in case a 2-person tent and more (with a width of 130 centimeters), but as for the height – then with an average growth you will be quite enough and 220 centimeters. However, if you also join your friend during the hunt, it will be better if the tent will be designed to stay in it for 2-3 people. If desired, all 4-5 hunters can fit into this tent.

The appearance of the hunting tent – you have to accept the fact that the tent and the lighthouse are two completely different things, and actually, it is not worth it to glow in the forest, therefore, it is recommended to choose camouflage coloring – a universal option, but if you lover of bright colors, the maximum that is allowed, so this is a tent of a noticeable color.

As for the interior arrangement and “architecture” and the layout of the tent, the tent-hemispheres with 2 tambours proved to be quite good. This fairly simple version is the closest to the classic tent life. Therefore, if you do not strive for avant-gardism, you can choose such a proven option as 2 arcs hold the tent itself and one more – from above, with a yoke, serves to increase the vestibule space. Why do you need your tent, you ask? It is in it you will leave your backpack, take off your shoes and store hunting supplies. This order in the tent will remind you of your home.

Types of tents

Single-layer and two-layer tents. Among the huge family of tents, the single-layer ones are the simplest ones, which will perfectly suit one person who does not have very high requirements for this important product. There are two-layered tents, which often “catch” the dripping water, and single-layered simply absorb moisture, and it turns out to be down or dripping on you from above. Another disadvantage is a small vestibule or its complete absence. In addition, there is no second entrance, which would make such a tent more convenient in terms of storing things and airing the internal space.

The advantages of such tents include a relatively small mass and volume, and disadvantages are a low level of comfort and reliability.

Camping tents for families. If you need to choose a tent for family rest, then the best option is a camping, that is, mini-houses. These tents are large and provide maximum comfort. Of course, on your two such equipment to the place of rest you do not deliver – you will have to use road transport.

In addition to the high vault, camping tents have a dressing room or two vestibules. Unfortunately, such means for rest are intended only for a warm season.

To the positive moments of such tents include increased comfort, and to disadvantages – a large volume and weight, which adversely affects the rate of folding.

Universal tents. For those tourists who do not tolerate obstacles in the form of seasonality of travel, universal tents that are sewn from a fabric folded in three or four layers are most suitable. This determines not only the strength of such products and their heat, but also a large weight. It is better to take a four-season tent – you can sleep in it all year round. Three-season is suitable for any season, except for a cold winter. The height of such tents is not too big, but it is enough for a comfortable night. Such tents are not suitable for severe tests in the wild, but when resting by the sea and walking along mountain ridges, such models will adequately show themselves, since they do not have obvious drawbacks with their versatility.

Extreme tents. The best tents for tourism in terms of reliability in non-standard conditions are expeditionary or extreme, which are designed for long journeys people in the harsh conditions of the Arctic and Antarctic. This is an exceptionally professional product, requiring the same attitude to itself. The disadvantages of this type of tent include a high price and the fact that they need to spend more time on their assembly. In addition, such a tent has a small height and weighs more than a universal tent.

How to choose a tent

If you still can not decide on the design of your tent, you are advised to take a dome that has a high level of resistance to almost any load. You can also take a closer look at the “half-cylinder”, which provides a relatively high level of comfort, however, during installation it will be necessary to work on the correct stretching.

When choosing tents, you need to keep in mind several important points. For example, when buying it is recommended to immediately put the tent to see how it will look on the ground. In addition, there will be flaws, if any. The second positive moment of installing a tent right in the store – you will understand how easy it will be to install it in nature, where there will be rain, wind, snow and other obstacles. If it is difficult to do in “home” conditions, you can forget about this purchase. The third point is that you will actually see how the tents are sewn, the zippers and many other things are easily fastened. After that, look how easy it is to collect the tent and put it back into the cover in a folded form.

How to install a tent correctly

Today, there are tents on the market that are laid out themselves, and there are more classic options that require your intervention. The main thing is that the day does not go off to install the tent, and then the evening, and the fewer hooks, hooks and lightning will be on your tent – the faster it will be installed. Convenient option – reliable fastening inside the tent itself, which can be quickly and conveniently attached to the tent arches. It is also convenient, when such arcs are fastened together with a rubber cord and covered with a special polymer coating, which does not freeze hands during the cold season, and the arcs themselves do not freeze to the tent and to the fasteners. The material of the arcs themselves – most often it is aviation aluminum, should be strong, light and not deformed in the case of numerous tent installations.

If you are going on a hunt with a new tent for the first time, it is recommended that you take the installation instructions with you, in order to make everything right and literate for the first time. Otherwise, you risk all the hunt for trying to invent a new way of installing a tent.

Material and equipment of the tent

To ensure that your tent is like a tent, and not “not clear what” and even after a few seasons beckoning you with your home cosiness, it is recommended to choose a strong and reliable, quality material from which the inner tent and its tent will be made. So, for example, a good version of polyester – resistant to sunlight (does not burn), durable, waterproof.

As for the inputs and outputs, it is better if there are 2 of them, and these holes should be large enough, but their size should be regulated. It will be nice to have mosquito nets installed on these entrances, which will protect you from annoying insects. Do not interfere and tent ventilations – special openings, which are located on the awning above the entrance to the tent. With the help of such ventilators, the air in the tent will always be fresh, as natural air circulation will occur. For your convenience, pay attention to whether there are net pockets in such a tent, in which you can store small things – a phone, for example.

Useful advice to hunters

  • For an overnight stay in the forest, a large and airtight tent is not suitable, which will not be blown by the wind, and on the walls of which there will be no condensation, which will turn your temporary shelter into an ice trap.
  • Tents made of polyester have proven themselves as light, durable, easy to clean. During transportation – do not deform, and during operation – do not pass sunlight. Some even have waterproof qualities.
  • Plastic arcs are a very unreliable material, therefore, it is better to pay more and purchase metal ones, but be aware that at the most crucial moment your tent will not cover you with a head.
  • The minus of automatic tents, which are laid out and installed themselves – is their fragility and lack of stability, where it is more reliable to install a simple frame tent. And, although the installation of such requires experience and skill, the result will not disappoint you exactly – and your night spent in the tent will not turn into a forest nightmare, when the slightest gust of wind leads to the fact that the tent falls on your head…
